Early Spring Flowers

Welcome in springtime the right way with freshly cut spring flowers! Flowers that grow and are popular in the spring are generally characterized by their vibrant pastel colors and bulb shaped blooms. They’re usually grouped together with other flowers of the same kind in arrangements to create an explosion of color and fragrance.

These flowers are seeded during the fall or winter in dry and temperate climates and when springtime comes, these perennial flowers blossom with an extremely high demand from around the world. We all adore roses, but because of their year-round availability, let’s take a look at some of the other beloved flowers that we at Wholesale Flowers will carrying this spring.

Tulips – The most popular and respected flower that blossoms during the spring season is the tulip. They require a bit of cold to grow so they’ll look their best in the spring time. Tulips are great for arrangements because they naturally grow in a wide variety of colors, with the exception of blue. They’ll even continue to grow a bit after being cut and arranged. Fun fact: tulips are the national flower of Turkey and Afghanistan. These countries have been influenced by the flower throughout their respective histories and even hold annual tulip festivals.

Ranunculus – Another bulb flower that blooms in the springtime and comes in a variety colors are ranunculus. They grow in almost every shade of warm color, making ranunculus a symbol of radiant charm. The multi-layered, delicate petals are a favorite among brides and are a cost-effective substitution for peonies, which bloom a little later in the year. They’re also long lasting and can last up to 6 weeks in a vase.

Freesia – Freesias are one of the most fragrant and unique spring flowers. All 16 species are native to southern Africa, but the seven most popular ones used in the floral industry today are primarily grown in the U.S. and are renowned for their hanging row of funnel-shaped flowers. The stem of freesias bend at a 90 degree angle just below the first flower, giving them their uncommon shape. Freesias are synonymous with springtime because of the captivating blooms and sweet smells they produce.

Hyacinth – The last spring flower for today is the highly scented and exceptionally shaped hyacinth flower. They’re often associated with spring because hyacinths are a sign of rebirth and are even the official flower of the Persian New Year celebration, held during the Spring Equinox. Hyacinths aren’t necessarily flowers, they’re actually flowering plants native to the Mediterranean region. The bulb produces a dense stalk filled with wonderfully colorful and aromatic flowers. Hyacinths are defiantly a welcomed treat in a spring-themed floral arrangement.
