Greenery: Color of the year 2017

The design industries overwhelming response to one of Pantone Color Institute’s choice for 2017 color of the year “Greenery” was a near universal acclaim.
The venerable color institution, in a statement explaining the color choice, referenced how nature’s greens “revive, restore and renew” Pantone’s selection brings the color choice to the national stage.

Cindy Anderson, AIFD, PFCI and coordinator for the forthcoming American Institute of Floral Designers Symposium in Seattle, praised Greenery’s versatility. “It’s a color we can use to build a story” -she said. “It enhances every palette with a shot of life. It is brightness and freshness rolled into one.”

Sharon McGukin, AAF, AIFD, PFCI, anticipates Greenery’s reign as Color of the Year will encourage scores of consumers to do the same. “Green is slang for many ideas in today’s marketplace, an easy to use, versatile color, a healthy ‘back to basics’ lifestyle.

Michael Derouin, AAF, AIFD, PFCI is grateful for the bounty of products that fit the Greenery bill. “We’re fortunate to have so many foliage’s and natural green flowers in all sorts of tones and textures to add visual interest to design’s.”

The selection moves a color that’s often in the background to the foreground, at a time when florists are already seeing that preference in action in their bridal and event work, where foliage-dominated designs have become a chic choice.
“Greenery speaks to our desire to express, explore, experiment and reinvent, imparting a sense of buoyancy” said Eiseman who has shared her expertise at S.O.A.F. events and Floral Management.

Here are a few varieties that come in the hue: Chrysanthemums, Roses, Celosia, Palmetto Fan, Hydrangea, Carnation, Amaranthus, Eryngium, Hypericum, Cymbidium, Jade, Parrot Tulip.
